Biotechnology Management in Africa

A note to users of this database

The information compiled for this database was provided by a network of biotech professionals in Africa and assembled by FARA with support from the Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture (SFSA) between 2009 and 2011. The data were derived from information compiled by partner organisations in the six original country members of the Strengthening Capacity for Safe Biotechnology Management in sub-Saharan Africa (SABIMA) project: Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria and Uganda. The list was subsequently expanded to include many other African countries. The current listing covers data from Burkina Faso, Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda. Additional African countries are expected to add their contact information to this invaluable database in due course.

SABIMA, since it was founded in 2009, has been coordinated by Professor Walter S Alhassan from the FARA Secretariat in Accra, Ghana. The database is maintained within the FARA website.

The database is dynamic and subject to continual updating. We know that researchers relocate and that institutions change names and mandates. We therefore invite users to send fresh information as applicable. Please send any suggested changes to biotech@fara-africa.org.
